Vision Labeling vs Traditional Labeling for PCB and Electronics

When CCD vision-guided placement beats fixture or open-loop labelers on PCB/electronics lines—and what to send before quoting.

Keep the simpler station. Do not buy vision for marketing language alone.

When vision pays off

Candidate applications on Anjelio’s catalogue for single-head vision include electronics/PCB and packaging; the VL-SS page lists PCB/FPC, plastic housings, and small packaging as selection scenes. Track-type configs (VL-TR) speak to PCB and tray-carried flow; embedded inline (VL-EM) targets existing-line integration.

Vision labeling ≠ AOIAnswer yes/no:

  1. Does the board or housing move enough in the nest that open-loop miss rate hurts yield?
  2. Do you change panel sizes often enough that hard fixtures dominate downtime?
  3. Is the target defined by a feature (pad/edge/hole) rather than a fixed conveyor index?
  4. Do you place more than one material in one pass?
  5. Must the station sit inside an existing SMEMA-style or tray transfer without a new hard nest?

If most answers are no, traditional may still win. If several are yes, shortlist vision configs—then pick architecture with the I3 config chooser (VL-SS / VL-DD / VL-4A and beyond).

FAQ

Is a vision labeler required for every PCB line?

No. Stable nests and wide tolerances often keep traditional applicators cost-effective. Vision is for variable pose, feature targets, high mix, or soft materials.

Will vision labeling replace my AOI station?

No. Placement and inspection are different purchases. Some lines run both; they are not substitutes.

Can you promise a fixed accuracy or cycle time here?

No invented ±mm or guaranteed cycle on this page. Catalogue rates (for example VL-SS 1200–2000 /h) are subject to sample validation. Lock numbers only in the confirmed proposal after samples.

What to send for a quote

Same “CCD / vision” words, different station. Vision labeling places a label or auxiliary material. AOI / CCD inspection finds defects or checks print after the fact. Buying an AOI camera stack does not give you a vision applicator—and the reverse is also true. Full FAQ wording lives in I1.
